Applying to CUSM-SOM is a multi-step process that begins with an AMCAS application and includes a Secondary Application as well as an onsite interview. Details below.
Step 1: AMCAS - All applications to CUSM-SOM must be submitted through the American Medical College Application Service (AMCAS). Applicants may obtain information regarding the CUSM-SOM admissions process and requirements at the admissions website at www.cusm.org. The School of Medicine practices a rolling admissions process and students are offered acceptance throughout the interview season. MD 2023-2024 application deadline is November 30, 2023.
Step 2: CUSM-SOM Review - The CUSM-SOM Office of Admissions receives submitted applications from AMCAS, reviews them, and selects highly qualified applicants to receive a Secondary Application. The secondary Application includes essay questions that aim to explore the applicants' personal attributes.
Step 3: Secondary Application - The applicants who are invited to submit the CUSM-SOM Secondary Application package must include payment of a non-refundable $100 application fee. An application fee waiver may be granted based on the applicant’s AMCAS Fee Assistance Program Status. The deadline for submission of Secondary/Supplemental Application is December 30, 2023.
Step 4: CUSM-SOM Secondary Review - The CUSM-SOM admissions committee reviews the AMCAS and Secondary Applications from the pool of applicants and selects highly qualified candidates for an interview.
Step 5: Interview Day – Virtual or onsite interviews will start in October of 2023 for the regular admissions cycle. The interview day schedule includes orientation sessions and opportunities for students to ask questions of CUSM-SOM faculty and administrators, and student ambassadors.
Step 6: Committee Decision - The CUSM-SOM admissions committee will review all application materials and interview-day evaluations to classify the candidates as Accepted, Waitlisted, or Rejected. Admission decisions will be released periodically beginning in September for Early Decision Candidates and in October for applicants from the regular pool.
Step 7: Acceptance Notification - The acceptance decision will be communicated to the candidates in the form of the CUSM-SOM Acceptance Letter. Notifications will be sent via email.
Step 8: AMCAS Choose Your Medical School Tool Students holding more than once acceptance must by May 15th indicate they either Plan to Enroll or Commit to Enroll at CUSM. All students who are currently accepted at CUSM must choose to Commit to Enroll at our institution by June 1st. Qualified students are admitted in compliance with federal and state non-discrimination laws. CUSM-SOM complies with the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 and the Americans with Disability Act, as set forth in the Services for Students with Disability policy.
